PCC Financial Services Department Wins Seventh Consecutive GFOA Award

Photos and story by

For the seventh straight year, Portland Community College’s Financial Services Director Wing-Kit Chung has earned the certificate for excellence in financial reporting.

Chung, of Beaverton, has earned the Governmental Financial Officer Association (GFOA) certificate each year since his arrival at PCC in 1991.

It is an accolade that he will not tire of any time soon.

"If nothing else, the progress we have made over the years has been phenomenal," said Chung of the way PCC reports its financial figures. "We get this done in November and we used to wait until December, so we have taken about four weeks off the process and still (are receiving the GFOA certificate). So kudos to our staff."

GFOA gives awards for financial reporting to entities in the United States and in Canada. Chung noted that when he arrived in July of 1991, PCC wasn’t among the award winners and he thought that needed to change.

"So many organizations belong to this elite group of award winners, and I said when I got here that we needed to be a part of that group," he said. "What we do is disclose as much financial information as we can without boring people. We want to present PCC in such a way that we are ensuring the financial integrity of the college."
