Photos and story by James Hill
LAKE OSWEGO – Parents today deal with an increasingly complex relationship with their children and sometimes it can be hard to know exactly what to do in certain situations. Portland Community College is helping parents by offering the non-credit class Getting on a Positive Cycle With Your Kids. It will give positive and productive information to parents with an overall goal of a strong parent and child relationship. The class is geared for parents with kids ages 7 and older. Topics include encouraging responsibility and respect, ways to increase responsible behavior, how to disengage and focus on problem-solving, moving beyond power struggles, tips to change behavior, and conflict and management tools. The class will run every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., starting Tuesday, Oct. 10 and ending Oct. 24. It will be held in room 10 at Lake Oswego High School, located at 2501 S.W. Country Club Road. The three lectures can be taken as a series for $21, or individually for $11. The lectures occur on Oct. 10, 17 and 24.
