PCC is Set for Summer Term June 25

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College opens its doors for summer term on Monday, June 25 loaded with opportunities for students. New students will be able to get a jump-start on and become acclimated to college; returning students are able to get ahead or caught up on coursework; and students who are attending a four-year college or university school in the fall can transfer credits earned at PCC to their four-year school. Several exciting opportunities for study include the option of earning three terms of credits in a variety of subjects in one summer in biology, chemistry, economics, first-year Japanese, first- and second-year French, German and Spanish, math, physics and statistics. For example, a student will be able to take the biology sequence 101, 102, 103 or economics 201, 202 and 203 this summer for a total of nine credits. The popular Sylvania Campus PCC Summer Arts Institute is back again with a variety of classes and workshops. Students have the choice of calligraphy, sculpture, encaustic painting, photography, drawing, ceramics, mask making, Native American art, comic book creation and mural creations. The classes are one to five weeks in length. A workshop format is set up for many of the classes, which run from one to eight weeks in length and offer one to three credits. For more information, contact 503-977-4279.The new dual enrollment partnerships with Oregon State University, Portland State University and the Oregon Institute of Technology give PCC students more choice and flexibility in creating a schedule of classes that fits their personal needs. With one application, current and prospective students can enroll in both schools at the same time and pay each school’s respective tuition. According to PCC’s Office of Institutional Research, the headcount enrollment growth for summer term is up 13.5 percent from last summer, hitting an all-time high of 15,288 seven days before the start of the term.
