Tour of Sauvie Island to Highlight Wildlife, History

The history and wildlife value of Sauvie Island will be highlighted during a tour of the island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7.Tour guide Jennifer Blacke will discuss Native American and pioneer history and the island’s current role as a crucial wildlife refuge for a variety of plant and animal species. Participants will travel by car to several sites, including Howell Territorial Park, Burlington Ferry Landing and Walton Beach.The tour starts at 10 a.m. at the Sauvie Island Bridge parking lot, near the large island map sign. Carpooling is encouraged. Tuition is $21. A $1 fee payable to the instructor will cover the cost of a tour handout. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-978-5753.
