Naturopathic Medicine Topic of PCC Series

PORTLAND, Ore. – The various uses of naturopathic medicine will be explored during a five-part series being offered winter term by Portland Community College.Naturopathic physician Debra Solochek will lead the non-credit sessions, which will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 14 through Feb. 25, in Room 220 at Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St. The series will give a comprehensive view of naturopathic medical techniques, and then focus on specific health topics and related naturopathic remedies. Tuition is $40 for the entire series or $15 per session.The series begins Jan. 14 with Naturopathic Fundamentals, an overview of the naturopathic philosophies and the physiology of the body’s systems. Naturopathic First Aid on Jan. 28 will teach participants how to build a naturopathic first aid-kit for headaches, stomachaches, cuts, abrasions, burns, strains and sprains.Respiratory Remedies for Asthma, Allergies, Colds and Bronchitis will be discussed during the Feb. 4 session. Participants will learn how to use herbs, nutritional supplements, dietary modifications and breathing exercises for controlling various respiratory ailments.The Feb. 11 session, titled Naturally Balancing Mood and Tension, will focus on the use of herbs, homeopathic diet and visualization to combat imbalances in adrenal, endocrine and hormonal levels, which are key to lowering stress and improving mood.The series concludes Feb. 25 with Naturally Healthy Heart and Blood Vessels.
