Two Items: PCC Online Classes Helps Students Navigate Palm Pilots

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College’s Community Education program is offering Palm Pilot owners a class on the Internet to help them get the most out of their high-tech gadget. The non-credit class, Navigating Your Palm Pilot, is Web-based instruction and runs for six weeks. There will be three installments of this course beginning on Wednesdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 15, Feb. 13 to March 22 and March 13 to April 19.The course will give students a better idea of the Palm’s value as a personal tool before making an investment. Instructor Timothy Payne will help students soar beyond the basics of the Palm’s operating system and covers the full range of functions and applications, including how to enter and organize data, use third-party applications, install additional software, and troubleshoot problems.Cost is $69. Instead, get to know it. Portland Community College’s Community Education will offer the non-credit class, Introduction to Windows XP, in three, six-week sections on the Internet. The sections start on Wednesdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 15, Feb. 13 to March 22, and March 13 to April 19.Windows XP is the latest version of Microsoft Windows, and the first product to incorporate elements of the new Microsoft.NET. Instructor Alan Simpson will cover all the basic skills and concepts needed to use a computer and students will learn to use and customize the new system. Instruction will cover working with text, pictures, photos, sound, music, DVD and building a local area network.Cost is $69.
