PORTLAND, Ore. – Have you watched an MTV show and wondered who designed the set? Portland Community College can help you start your career towards becoming that person. This fall PCC is offering a new Web-based program, Audiovisual Technology, which culminates in a certificate and a new career in this growing field. Students can complete the course in a year, or tailor their own schedule to fit with work and family demands. The program prepares students to become an audio or video technician, installer, field technician, rigger, audiovisual systems technician and more. Students will learn basics of electronics and how to operate equipment. The program is a response to the audiovisual industry’s desire to have a trained workforce. PCC is part of the nationwide consortium AV Tech Online College Network that helped to develop the one-year program. State approval of the certificate could come as soon as next month. The nine Internet-based classes have a strong industry hands-on component. "The industry feels so strongly about this need that they have invested significant dollars and time to make it happen,"said John Sneed, director of Distance Education. "There has not been a career path into this field until now, and it will appeal to students in high school, people who are now working in this field and people looking for a new career in an emerging technological field."For more information, contact John Sneed at 503 977-4398.
