Opsis Architecture has been selected by the Portland Community College Board of Directors to plan the bond work at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road.
Opsis will provide comprehensive architectural services for Rock Creek, including site location evaluations, assessment of land use requirements, programming and schematic designs, construction document preparation and other services.
“Our firm is focused on higher education,” said Alec Holser, principle architect with Opsis. “It is close to eighty percent of our work, which gives us a deeper understanding of how learning environments are changing with new teaching methods and the integration of technology.”
Holser considers the firm’s strengths and attractiveness to higher education institutions to be, “consensus building, working with a large variety of user groups in a collaborative format and providing leadership in sustainability.”
Work at the campus includes: new academic building; expanded area for food services, the physical plant and public safety; 20 more general purpose classrooms; a new health professions building; additional labs for fitness, emergency medical technician, nursing, occupational and physical therapy programs; a second campus entrance; expanded childcare; and renovations to Building 3 and 9. Opsis Architecture has identified seven sub-consultants it intends to contract with for the project. Four of the seven firms are certified with Oregon as being owned by minorities or women, or are emerging small businesses.
Founded in 1999, Opsis Achritecture? is led by Holser, James Meyer and Jim Kalvelage. The threesome have a 25-year history, beginning as students at the University of Oregon School of Architecture program and now working together as principals at one of the Northwest’s leading firms.
