This fall, students in Columbia County can get started on an Oregon Transfer Degree in Scappoose and St. Helens.

Starting this fall term, Portland Community College is offering credit classes in Columbia County to help local students economize time and gas money by taking classes in their own community.

“We are absolutely delighted to be putting a plan in place this fall, which involved a year of input from Columbia County residents and leaders,” said David Rule, Rock Creek Campus president. “We believe that the plan is sustainable and fulfills a promise we made to our friends in Columbia County when I first arrived (in September 2008).”

Columbia County Commissioner Earl Fisher called the plan a good start.

“I’m really pleased with the effort by PCC to respond to the needs and concerns of the constituents of Columbia County,” said Fisher, who added that he hopes residents will take advantage of the classes, which in turn, he hopes will motivate the college to expand local programming.
