Reminder to register to vote

Photos and story by

To the students, staff and faculty of Portland Community College:

The Nov. 2 election is fast approaching and I encourage everyone at PCC to make sure they are registered to vote. And then to vote.

The registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Fortunately, the state of Oregon has made it easier than ever to register, or to check to confirm that you are registered. Just go to OregonVotes.org to be directed to the Oregon Secretary of State’s Elections Division website. From there, you can confirm that you are registered. If not, you can register online.

The hotly contested presidential race of 2008 brought out record numbers of voters, including many first-time voters. There is a fear that many of these Oregonians won’t feel as compelled to vote this year. But it is as important as ever to get the vote out. Scores of city, county and state issues face Oregonians. This is the time to make your voices heard.

Thank you,
Dr. Preston Pulliams
District President, Portland Community College
