Portland Community College Board of Directors names new Chair and Vice Chair

On Thursday, July 19, the PCC Board of Directors named their Chair and Vice Chair for the upcoming board terms.? Denise Frisbee, the former vice chair, has been named as the Chair to the Board of Directors, and Deanna Palm has been named the new Vice Chair.? Their duties and term begin immediately. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the budget and overall policy direction of the college.

“I am looking forward to a busy year for PCC Board, continuing our efforts to ensure and expand access to training and affordable post secondary education for our students, while boosting our success rates so that our students can be ready to transfer to 4 year universities or find the better paying job for which they have sought training.

This year we also face the significant tasks of selecting a new college president who will come on board next year, while staying focused on the evolving statewide restructuring of the pre-K-20 public education system – all this within a climate of reduced state financial support. There is lots to do, but we have a great team to work with and are excited about tackling our challenges,” said Fribee.

Denise Frisbee is an attorney and retired?Director for the Department of Planning and Building Services, City of Lake Oswego. She has an extensive community service background, including serving as Board liaison for Portland Community College’s 2008 bond campaign.? Frisbee has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1976. She has worked as an attorney and consultant for the Natural Resources Law Institute, assistant counsel for the Multnomah County Counsel’s Office, assistant attorney for the City of Portland Attorney’s Office, land use hearings officer for Deschutes County, city attorney for Sisters, a consultant on projects for the Metropolitan Service District, Tri-Met and Lake Oswego School District, and has worked with several private practices. Frisbee earned a law degree from Lewis andClark Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in Massachusetts.

Ms. Frisbee was elected in 2005 and 2009,? and Represents Zone 1.

“I look forward to serving in the capacity as vice chair of the Board. It was an honor to be selected by my fellow Board members. This is a very important time for PCC as we select our new President.”

Ms Palm is a former PCC student in the early 1980s, and as board member represents Zone 7, which covers western Washington County.? She is a lifetime Washington County resident and has been president of the Greater Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce since 2001. Palm leads the chamber in establishing relationships with businesses, the community and local governments, implements all of the chamber board’s polices, administers the budget and promotes the chamber.

The Board appointed Ms. Palm in 2009 and she was elected in 2011 She represents Zone 7.

Congratulations Ms. Palm and the best of luck to you as you carry forth the baton for the late Harold Williams, who passionately worked to make sure that everyone had an opportunity to improve their lives through education. God bless!
