Former Portland Mayor Sam Adams, now executive director of the City Club of Portland, led the group from downtown Portland to CLIMB Center via the Street Car and sat in on a 60-minute representation by Bob Hanks (CLIMB director) and Tammy Marquez-Oldham (PCC’s SBDC director) discussing the successes and barriers for minority small business. Topics included certifications offered by Oregon’s Office of Minority, Women and Emerging Small Business (it has more than 3,300 certified businesses), barriers and advantages to ownership, success stories, technical assistance that is available to them and Oregon Department of Transportation funding grants.
