Rock Creek community makes Fowler-Hill feel right at home

Photos and story by

There was no shortage of smiles earlier this month as the Rock Creek Campus welcomed its new leader. Hundreds of faculty and staff gathered on April 1 in the Event Center of Building 9 to celebrate the arrival of Sandra Fowler-Hill, who comes to PCC from Everett Community College in Washington state.

During the welcoming, various staff representing administration, faculty and classified workers spoke on behalf of their colleagues and presented Fowler-Hill with gifts.

“This is so overwhelming to see this welcome,” said Fowler-Hill. “I’ve been so impressed by the college, the people and the sharing. Rock Creek is a place filled with love and I certainly have felt that today.”

Fowler-Hill served as executive vice president of Instruction and Student Services for Everett and has worked for community colleges for most of her career. After being selected as Rock Creek’s new president, Fowler-Hill spent time gleaning information from past campus leaders Bill Christopher, Dave Rule and Pamela Transue to gain perspective on her new home.

“It’s a place that I’ve been told, and has been affirmed immediately, is dedicated to students and where people are dedicated to the work they are doing,” she said.

Communications Studies Instructor Chris Edwards represented the Rock Creek faculty with a ceramic mug created by Visual Arts Instructor Richey Bellinger. He spoke to the exceptional faculty and programs that she’ll be overseeing.

“We hope that you grow to love Rock Creek in the ways that many of us have and that you really find it the place that you were meant to be,” Edwards said. “We’re looking forward to you joining with us, hopefully guiding us through the current times and into the future, and make Rock Creek the best possible place it can be.”
