Union Bank Vice President Shawn DuBurg presents Portland Teachers Program Director Deborah Cochrane with a check for $7,500 in the PTP offices at Cascade.

The Portland Teachers Program has?received?a $7,500 grant from the Union Bank Foundation to help the program in its efforts to increase diversity in the teaching ranks of Portland Public Schools and Beaverton School districts.

Program?director Deborah Cochrane along with Matt Chase, major gifts officer with the PCC Foundation, collaborated on the application and were both happy to receive the check from Shawn DuBurg, vice president of Union Bank, in a recent visit to the Cascade Campus. Union Bank’s contribution is part of its commitment to education and community investment.

The Portland Teachers Program?is a partnership between?PCC, Portland Public Schools, Portland State University, the University of Portland and the Beaverton School District. It is designed to recruit and help prepare culturally competent teachers, with a special focus on historically underrepresented groups in the teaching profession. More than?130 students have graduated from PTP and there are approximately 65 students currently in the program.

It sure is nice of PCC to take a break from spending $300,000 on Jeremy Brown’s severance to spend $7,500 on diversity.

I am interested to become a teacher in State of Oregon, I have reached in Somalia two decades ago and currently I teach adults as a jobs skills trainer. However, I would like to give more information about the program.
