The Portland Community College Job Fair, one of the foremost resources for job seekers in the Portland metro area, makes its annual return on Tuesday, April 26.
An assortment of more than 100 area employers are expected to be on hand for the 19th annual job fair, which is set from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Building, Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St. The job fair places job-seekers face-to-face with employers from a wide range of industries in both the public and private sectors where they can learn about available openings, pay scales and benefits, and the amount of education needed to obtain a given position.
Employers represented include Legacy Health System, Providence Health & Services, Comcast, and the City of Portland, to name just a few.

PCC Cascade Career Services Coordinator Becky Washington said employment prospects in the Portland area are better now than they have been in a long time.
“Portland got a raise, but did you?” Washington asked. “Average wages in Portland went up $1.50 an hour between 2014 and 2015. If your earnings aren’t keeping up, maybe now is the time to find a better job. Portland is growing jobs across industries.”The event will feature its popular photo head shot service for attendees. The first 100 job-seekers to sign up will receive a close-up photo taken by a professional photographer for use in online networking and more.
Also returning this year, continuing the fair’s emphasis on online job searching, will be a free seminar from Marsha Warner, a senior consultant with Waldron HR and coach for Career Factors. Warner is an expert at helping people use social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn to broaden a job searcher’s reach and enhance their chances of success.
A number of additional free seminars also will be available, including “Resumes: Be Current, Be Effective, Get Hired” and “Interview Like a Pro.”
In addition, the job fair will feature nearly all of PCC’s 80 professional technical programs, each of which has at least one employer related to their degree or certificate. Job-seekers are encouraged to dress as though they’re going to an interview and to arrive early.
“It’s no secret that the job market is hotter right now than it’s been in a long time,” Washington added. “People should try to give themselves every advantage they can.”
