Local high schoolers earn college credit at Digital Fabrication Camp

The Sylvania Campus, with the help of local school districts and a grant from the Oregon Department of Education, hosted a four-week, dual credit Digital Fabrication Camp for high school students ages 14-18 years old this summer. The camp offered students 7.5 PCC credits in Machine Manufacturing Technology that could be applied towards Digital Fabrication Certificate, which is slated to begin in December.
Students were introduced to Computer Assisted Machining (CAM) systems, laser cutting, printing, router fundamentals, digital laser scanning and project machine technology, through the creation of a board game from the packaging to pieces used for the game.?Upon completion of the camp, students developed the competencies needed to use CAD software, computer? driven fabrication machines and 3D digitizing tools and software to convert ideas into products.
