- October 17 – Adam Levin, classical guitarist, has been praised by renowned American guitarist Eliot Fisk as a “virtuoso guitarist and a true 21st century renaissance man.” Levin has performed across the United States and Europe at celebrated venues and was a Fulbright Scholar from 2008-11. The Chicago native studied with Fisk at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he received his master’s degree. Adam is currently the co-director of the annual Boston Guitarfest Young Guitarists Workshop and teaches guitar at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and Middlesex College.
- October 24 – Sandeep Koranne, a virtuoso on sitar, will present the classical music of North India. Sandeep is from New Delhi and has been performing in public since the age of 10. He has performed regularly on All India Radio and has performed in Sacramento, Sunnyvale and Portland. Indian classical music is thousands of years old, created by the ancient sages attuned to the cycles of nature. They observed and refined their experiences of sound and rhythm and its relationship to and effect on nature and the human psyche. Continually evolving for thousands of years, the music of India has become one of the most meditative and beautiful in the world, a spiritual and living system of Raga (melody) and Tala (rhythm). Sandeep will be accompanied by Saikiran Madhusudan on tabla.
- November 7 – Red Lantern Ensemble is one of Portland’s premiere performing ensembles, featuring piano, cello, violin, flute, voice and additional instruments, with a focus on exploring the more subtler shades of musical forms traditionally appreciated as classical, neo-classical, avant-garde, and modern, and bringing a re-envisioned awareness to masterful works that are the inspiration for the music of today.
- November 28 – Choro da Alegria is a Portland-based ensemble dedicated to playing the melodies of Brazil. They draw much inspiration from the genre “Choro” which has been loosely called “Brazilian ragtime.” Beyond choro they include classic tunes from Bossa Nova and Musica Popular Brasileira. Choro da Alegria is made up of Pam Beaty, (7-string guitar), Esteban Diaz, (percussion), Peter Fung (percussion and guitar), and Tom Pinit (bandolim/Brazilian mandolin). The group released its first CD, “quiosque,” in June 2015.
