Cascade’s pre-college academy hosts completion ceremony for its second cohort
Photos and story by Abe Proctor
The Cascade Pre-College Academy (CAPCA) celebrated the completion ceremony for its second cohort of students. Among the many obstacles encountered by first-generation and low-income students, as well as students from traditionally underserved backgrounds, can be a lack of familiarity with college life. Having to confront things like applying for admission and financial aid, registering for classes, and – perhaps above all – feeling like they simply don’t belong on campus can feel overwhelming, they said.
CAPCA is designed to help these students overcome these barriers through a combination of mentorship; familiarization with the admissions, financial aid, and registration processes; exploration of career opportunities that align with their personal interests; and help with getting their math and writing skills up to college level, if necessary.
