PCC partners with local nonprofit to encourage grade-schoolers to get excited about college

Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus has partnered with local educational nonprofit Greater Than to expose Alder Elementary School children to college life.
Last fall, a group of PCC’s Future Connect Scholarship Program students – several of whom attended Alder when they were younger – shared recollections of their college experiences with the first-grade class during Alder’s “College Day.” The PCC students encouraged them to look at college as a natural next step on their educational and professional path. This spring, the Alder first-graders will visit the Cascade Campus to get a first-hand taste of college life.
Every year, Greater Than takes kids from the East Portland grade school on visits to different area colleges and universities, and has college students attend its annual “College Day.”
