Wes Moore, who is coming to PCC, is a popular author for ‘common reads,’

A growing number of colleges are assigning “common reads” — books that all incoming freshmen must read over the summer and prepare to discuss in their first week on campus. The most popular book in 2011 in this growing sensation among colleges and universities is, “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates.” In the book, author Wes Moore tracks his own life, alongside the fate of another man of the same name.

NPR highlighted the common read format and Wes Moore’s book.

Why is this interesting besides his recent Time Magazine cover appearance? Moore will be the keynote speaker for PCC’s District In-Service, which kicks off the academic year for staff and faculty. Moore will help PCC kick off a full year of celebration for PCC’s 50th year that will include festivities at every campus, the grand opening of Newberg Center, artistic and theatrical productions, a gala for the PCC Foundation and, next spring, the 50th anniversary graduation. You can find out more, here at the PCC 50th Webpage.
