Portland Community College’s Foundation Board of Directors continues its expansion with the addition of Caitlin Sause.

Sause is the director of Government and Public Affairs for Vigor Industrial, a post she’s held since July 2014. Prior to this role, she served as the Government Affairs advisor for Ball Janik, LLP.

“Caitlin is sure to add an important dynamic to the foundation board, one that’s very workforce development-oriented,” said Rob Wagner, associate vice president of PCC’s College Advancement office.

“Her familiarity with the manufacturing and maritime industries will prove to be a huge asset for us, as PCC intends to grow outreach to these and other arenas,” he said.

Born and raised in Coos Bay, Ore., Sause grew up working in the maritime and timber industries. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned her master’s degree in political science in 2008 from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. In addition to PCC’s Foundation Board, for which she will serve a three-year term, Sause is a board member of the Oregon Sports Authority, a member of Toastmasters International and a member of the Arlington Club.

“I’m particularly passionate about PCC’s workforce development programs, and specifically its welding program,” said Sause. “We have a shortage of skilled welders in the United States, and I’m excited at the thought of finding a solution to the problem through attention and support of welding programs like PCC’s.

“Through my work on the Foundation board, I hope to encourage the career technical aspirations of PCC students, whose skills and capabilities will keep career tech jobs alive and well in the region,” she said.

As the only non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the college, the PCC Foundation helps students access education by awarding scholarships and building the college’s capacity to provide vital educational opportunities for the community at large. The volunteer board of directors, representing a wide range of business and community interests, leads the PCC Foundation.
