PCC hosts vigils in memory of Umpqua CC victims

Portland community college students and staff are banding together in solidarity with community colleges around Oregon to express support to those affected by the shooting at Umpqua Community College. Vigils will be held between 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7. Events will be held at each of the main campuses to encompass as many members of the PCC?community as possible. The PCC community and general public are invited. All vigils start at 5 p.m.

Cascade Campus – Between Cascade Hall and Student Union Building.?There will be music, several speakers, candles, ribbons, posters for signage, notecards for letters, and a candle lighting ceremony with a reading of the names of the lives taken.

Southeast Center – Quad area. There will be?music, brief remarks, reciting of the victims’ names, a moment of silence and a time for community and student speakers.

Sylvania Campus – PAC courtyard.?There will be resource tables (counseling/DRC/ASPCC), sign-ups for public comments, and hot chocolate. Organizers?will pass out candles during as a choir speaks, have many speakers from the college, and end with representatives from Diversity Council.

Rock Creek Campus – Foundation courtyard. There will be?a table for students to write notes to UCC, tables covered with poster paper for students to write how they feel, ribbons to give out, and will light the candles like the other campuses. We will have our event parking open and we will also have counselors available. Program is still being planned.
