marylhurstsignPortland Community College and Marylhurst University have officially continued their long-standing dual enrollment partnership that clears a path for students to obtain a four-year degree.

The schools renewed their official agreement during a ceremony on May 18 at PCC’s Sylvania Campus (12000 S.W. 49th Ave.). PCC has dual enrollment agreements with seven four-year universities, including Marylhurst, Portland State, Oregon State, Oregon Institute of Technology, Concordia, Western Governors and Linfield College.

“Agreements like this one with Marylhurst provide a creative and critical linkage that enables a smooth pathway for our students, from one institution to the other,” said PCC Interim President Sylvia Kelley. “This dual admission agreement encourages and supports students who come to PCC and Marylhurst, so that they’re successful in their academic pursuits and later, in their career endeavors.”

These agreements allow students to take classes at both schools, expanding their resources and options. The students can also tailor their studies to fit goals and timelines, working with advisors at both institutions to make sure they are on course to their four-year degree. PCC and Marylhurst first started their dual enrollment pact in 2006.

Benefits to the student include a one-application process, advising available from both schools, increased flexibility in scheduling with access to more classes, coordinated financial aid and scholarships, and having a simple reverse transfer service that allows PCC to award an associate degree when enough credits have been earned.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone whose dedication and efforts have contributed to the finalization of this agreement,” said Marylhurst President Melody Rose.“Their insights, goodwill and friendship have made the signing of this a reality. I am confident that through our efforts and commitment we will be able to help students achieve degree completion: first an associate, then a bachelor’s degree.”
