Ceramic Artist Yoshiro Ikeda Comes to Rock Creek Gallery for workshops and showing
Photos and story by James Hill
Portland Community College art faculty, staff, students and local art lovers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of internationally known ceramic artist Yoshiro Ikeda to the PCC Rock Creek Gallery in November. Ikeda will be honored at a reception at the gallery on Nov. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. He will also host workshops on his craft from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 6. The cost for each workshop is $40.
Ikeda will teach students the techniques involved in the art of hand-building ceramics a style he has been working with since his early days as an art instructor at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
His own work is known for its "thin-walled delicacy" and vibrant, hand-painted colors and patterns. A variety of Ikeda’s work will be on display at the Rock Creek Gallery, 17705 N.W. Springville Road, Building 3, from Nov. 1 through Dec. 3.
For gallery hours or more information on the Ikeda showing or workshops, call gallery manager and PCC instructor Dick Helzer at 614-7329, or the department’s administrative assistant at 614-7248.
