PORTLAND, Ore. – A free, non-credit professional development series sponsored by Portland Community College will meet this fall at the Multnomah County Library, 801 S.W. 10th Ave. Sessions will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 27 through Nov. 1. The series begins Sept. 27 with Worry? Who Me? Instructor Joseph Kurtright will explore the forces that cause worry and guilt and discuss ways to use them to personal advantage. Techniques for speaking so others will truly listen will be shared by instructor Denise Harrington during the Oct. 4 session, titled How to Speak with Impact.The series continues Oct. 11 with Overcoming Negative Attitudes. Instructor Gloria Morton will help participants learn to recognize and respond to negative people in the workplace as well as discover and overcome their own negative attitudes. Career strategies will be explored during Make Your Move on Oct. 18. Instructor Jennifer Anderson will teach participants how to capitalize on their talents, get out of a career rut and feel productive and fulfilled as they progress up the corporate ladder. The series continues Oct. 25 with Go Ahead, Make My Day! Skills to neutralize negative comments, stop critical self-talk and foster self-appreciation will be shared by instructor Phil Mandel. A World of Difference concludes the series on Nov. 1.
