Photojournalism class teaches to expect the unexpected
Photos and story by James Hill
BEAVERTON, Ore. – It’s a great skill to photograph a planned subject well but what about the unexpected? Portland Community College takes a look at the spontaneous side of photography with a new non-credit class. Photojournalism: The Facts of Life puts you in the place of reporter as you discover how to chronicle the unexpected moments. Instructor and professional photographer David Falconer will show you how to work with subjects that don’t want their pictures taken or how to seek out photographs that catch the eye of both editors and readers. Students should be prepared for unusual assignments. The six-week class will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 8 through Feb. 12, in Room 1539 at the PCC Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $64.
