HILLSBORO, Ore. – In January 2002, Portland Community College will bring expanded education and training opportunities to Hillsboro with its new Hillsboro Center, set to open in downtown Hillsboro at First Avenue and Washington Street for winter term. The college is preparing four classrooms, 9,000 square feet, in all. The new facility will also house a computer lab, a conference room, testing areas and staff offices. The center is a result of a unique partnership between PCC and Washington County, who owns the building. The arrangement will allow for joint use between the college and the county. PCC will bring a wide variety of classes to Hillsboro, including lower division college transfer classes in English, sociology, political science, Spanish, math, history, geology, speech, business, economics and art. The college will also offer classes in English as a second language, computers, graphic design, building construction technology and college preparation courses. "The location is ideal,"said Bill Christopher, executive dean of the Rock Creek Campus, located at N.W. 185th and Springville Road, near Highway 26. The Hillsboro center is on the MAX line in downtown Hillsboro. It is also near the Cornelius and Forest Grove bus lines. "It’s going to be much easier for people on the west side of our district to get a start closer to home on their four-year degree,"he said. Call 503-614-7213 for more information.
