Technical Writing Class Covers Basics of Industry

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Portland Community College is teaming with Ace Communications to offer an informative series on technical writing this winter term. The non-credit series, Essentials for Technical Writers, will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16 at Ace Communications, 10550 S.W. Allen Blvd. In the series, Ace Communications experts teach technical writing software tools, which are widely used by businesses and individuals in the profession.Word 2000 for Tech Writers – On Jan. 12, learn how technical writers use templates and styles in Microsoft Word to create robust documents. Also, tips and tricks to make document creation easier. Cost is $20 with $199 payable to Ace Communications.HTML/CSS Essentials – On Jan. 19, HTML and CSS skills will be used to create and incorporate Internet and Intranet Web sites. Cost is $20 with $199 payable to Ace Communications.RoboHELP Essentials – On Jan. 26, explore how RoboHELP got to be one the leading authoring tools in the technical writing field. Students will be introduced to its many features as they develop a small online help system. Cost is $20 with $199 payable to Ace Communications.Adobe FrameMaker – On Feb. 2-9, students will learn how to create manuals, training guides and other forms of print and online documentation. Cost is $20 with $375 payable to Ace Communications.XML Essentials – On Feb. 16, topics will include XML architecture elements, attributes, entities, special characters and tables.
