Put Poetry in Motion: With PCC Class
Photos and story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – The ancient art of poetry has given rise to centuries of creative expression. Now, PCC Community Education invites Portland residents to explore their own voice through poetry in an upcoming non-credit course offered this winter. Students will discover the history of poetry, beginning from age-old Greek epigrams to contemporary free verse, both traditional forms and mutations. Instructor Andrew Tully will then lead students in discovering their own hidden poetic voice and vision, and understanding the relevance of poetry in today’s world. The eight-week course takes place on Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 9 and running through February 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grant High School, 2245 N.E. 36th Ave. Poetry is open to all levels. The cost is $59. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-978-5143.
