Sada (regroup) screening and artist talk at the Cascade Campus

Portland Community College’s North View Gallery, in collaboration with curator Mack McFarland, will host a screening of “Sada (regroup)” from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building (MAHB 104) at the Cascade Campus. The event will feature Iraqi artists Ali Eyal and Bassim Al Shaker, who will be present to discuss their work following the screening.
“Sada (regroup)” is an anthology film that brings together video works from artists who participated in Sada, an ad hoc art school established in Baghdad between 2011 and 2015. The school supported artists working in the aftermath of the US-led invasion. 
The screening is part of PCC’s “Refractions” series, which explores complex realities like cultural myths, colonization and the long-term impact of international conflicts. The series features artists who use video, animation and performances.
Eyal and Al Shaker, along with fellow artists Sajjad Abbas, Sarah Munaf and Rijin Sahakian, have created an experimental narrative that reflects on their artistic journeys since the original Sada initiative. This project was commissioned by the prestigious documenta fifteen.
The screening and artist talk are open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to engage with internationally recognized artists and their exploration of identity, memory, and the effects of prolonged warfare on creative expression.?
The Sada event is made possible by funding from the Regional Arts and Culture Council. The college is home to four art galleries: the North View Gallery (Sylvania Campus), the Paragon Arts Gallery (Cascade), the Helzer Gallery (Rock Creek) and the Southeast Gallery (Southeast).
