Each term, the Institute for Health Professionals offers a variety of courses in healthcare that fulfill continuing education requirements for healthcare professionals, and offer insight into special topics you may wish to know more about.
Special Topics Courses
Phlebotomy Refresher Course
Already have blood draw experience? Review blood collection procedures and learn updated phlebotomy standards based on ASSCP recommendations.
Phlebotomy Difficult Draws
Learn specialized and individualized techniques for difficult draws. Ensure patient safety and comfort for pediatric, geriatric, and critically ill patients, as well as those with vascular disease, edema, obesity, or a high risk of hemorrhage.
Recent clinical blood draw experience is required.
Phlebotomy for Health Professionals – 45 hours
45-hour Phlebotomy for Health Professionals course is offered in a hybrid format, with 40 hours in a lab setting and 5 hours of self-directed study.
This course is only for individuals who:
- Have work experience in the medical office, hospital, urgent care clinic, outpatient center, or other professional healthcare facility
- Are currently employed in a healthcare environment where they have access and permission to perform 100+ supervised blood draws.
Introduction to IV Therapy
This 8-hour class is tailored to enhance the skill sets of RNs, LPNs, Dental Assistants, Hygienists, and Medical Assistants. Attendees will receive current information, witness demonstrations, learn about legal and documentation issues, and practice advanced techniques for peripheral IV line care.
It’s the sole IV therapy hands-on course endorsed by the Oregon Board of Dentistry, permitting Anesthesia Dental Assistants to initiate IVs and renew their certifications, making it a vital educational opportunity for expanding clinical proficiency and staying compliant with industry standards.
