Become a training agent

Thank you for your interest in training registered apprentices!

As an employer, you may have many questions about how a registered apprenticeship can help your company. We welcome you to explore this page and follow up if you have questions or are ready to get started training apprentices.

Registered apprenticeship in Oregon creates industry-driven solutions for ready-made training that also includes flexibility for a variety of employers and industries. Using a structured combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction, registered apprenticeship creates a pipeline of skilled workers, increases morale, improves safety, and provides valuable state-issued credentials for your employees. If you are brand new to the world of registered apprenticeship in Oregon, this video produced by BOLI?provides a great overview!

Although PCC does not run any apprenticeship programs, we are proud to partner with five Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees that are authorized by the State of Oregon to train apprentices in 10 different industrial trades. PCC partners with these programs to administer the day-to-day activities of each program and to provide classes to apprentices as the preferred educational provider for each JATC. As administrators, PCC assists employers with the process of applying to become a registered training agent with any of their five partner JATCs.

For employers interested in training apprentices with one of the JATCs that partner with PCC, please explore the Standard and Policy documents by clicking the specific committee links and Employer Start Guides:

A central decision employers must make when deciding whether to join an existing apprenticeship program is whether it meets their training needs. A great place to start is the Standard. This is the document which details all aspects of the program. This is where an employer can learn how long a program will last, how much they will be expected to pay apprentices, and what type of work their employees must be able to do to complete the program. For example, if the Standard for a program requires a category of work that is not available in your company, that program is not a good fit for your training needs.

After you read the Standard and explore the JATC links, you may still have questions! Feel free to reach out to schedule a one-on-one info session. To learn more or schedule an in-person information session feel free to reach out to us at apprenticeship@pcc.edu.
