Program overview

Getting started

Our programs are open access. You are not required to apply to the specific program. You may start any term of the year.

New students

Schedule an appointment with a faculty member or the program advisor before registering for classes. This can be done face to face or via email.

Students with previous experience, transfer credits, or degrees

If you already have a few years of experience in construction, you should set up an advising appointment. Some foundational classes may be substituted for you with more challenging work.

If you are transferring to the program or already have a degree, we encourage you to set up an appointment in the first term of study to review transcripts and design a course program particular to your situation. Most students with prior degrees do not need to take the 16 credits of General Education.

Prerequisites

BCT 106 Tool Safety must be taken before beginning any other hands-on classes unless the instructor provides permission to take the classes concurrently.

On-the-job-experience

Students wishing to pursue the two-year associate degree also have the opportunity to participate in cooperative education, a program that allows you to receive credit for on-the-job experience; while this is optional in the Building Construction Technology program, it is required in the Construction Management and Design/Build Remodeling options.
