Whether you are seeking a career in education or want to keep your license current and update your skills through re-licensing classes, PCC is here to help you help others. We offer:

• Transfer options: Current teacher preparation options include a statewide Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree in Elementary Education that allows you to start your education courses at PCC, along with your general education coursework.
• Educator Associates Degree: for non-licensed educators who plan to work with youth or adults in a variety of settings (including outdoor, international, garden, paraprofessional educators).
• Paraprofessional Educator Certificate: for classified paraprofessional K-12 educators who prefer working with closely with 1-3 students will learn relevant strategies to best serve on instructional teams.
• CTE Educator Certificate: for industry professionals seeking to obtain an Oregon Restricted CTE license to teach CTE in high school.

Grow Your Own Pathways

If you are a BIPOC student interested in transferring to Portland State University, and becoming a teacher through PSU’s Teacher Education Program, you may be eligible to apply to the?Rise to Teach Program. This is a tuition-supported pathway for students who can attend college full-time.

Teacher Relicensing

PCC can also help you keep your teaching license current. Most Education Department courses numbered 101 or above are accepted by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) to meet relicensing requirements ¨C contact TSPC regarding your individual requirements.

Our coursework will prepare you to resolve everyday challenges? and provides learning opportunities regarding educational history, equity, laws and other issues relevant to the profession. This program also gives students the tools to successfully support teachers in planning, presenting and evaluating instruction and learning.

What will you do?

As a classroom teacher, you will have one of the most important jobs in our society. Employment of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers in the Portland area is expected to increase by 8.7% through 2027 according to the Oregon Employment Division. Science, math, special education, and bilingual teachers will be in great demand.
