The PCC?Voices?of?Soul?Choir at Sylvania?is a multi-generational choir with community events and fun pop-up opportunities to sing at will.??We also have a music?club where karaoke has been a blast!
The PCC Voices of Soul Choir is led by Julianne Johnson-Weiss, an acclaimed singer, actress, director, and producer. Julianne has deep roots as an educator and artist-in-residence and Chair of the Portland Community College Music Department.

The PCC Voices of Soul Choir is open and welcoming to all Portland Community College students who seek to sing, make friends, build community, and share in the gift of music with others! We have end-of-term performances at the Performing Arts Center at Sylvania and other performances throughout the city.? We meet once per week on Monday evenings.

Instructor: Julianne Johnson Weiss
For over sixteen years, Julianne Johnson Weiss was the Director of Theatre for ESOL Otemae student Exchange Program with Portland State University in collaboration with the extension in Osaka, Japan. Julianne Johnson Weiss has been the front person for acclaimed local and regional bands sharing the stage with artists in festivals throughout the United States, Canada and abroad.?With Artist in Residencies throughout the community as well as being a founding member of the Snowman Foundation and Play it Forward, Julianne has had a flourishing Vocal and Acting studio.
Julianne has developed and taught many classes at Portland Community College including Group Vocal, History of Gospel, History of Jazz, MUP Private Voice, and Music Appreciation. She is the Director of PCC’s Concert Choir and for the past eighteen years and Director of PCC’s Chamber choir, the “Voices of Soul” for fourteen years. Julianne is also the Musical Theatre director for PCC, producing musicals every two years in collaboration with PCC Theater and Music Programs.
Julianne’s musical theatre collaborations throughout the city have produced countless shows including:?Cinderella, Grease, Godspell, Les Miserables, Hairspray, In the Heights, The Me Nobody Knows, Jesus Christ Superstar, and many more over the years.
As an Actress and performer, Julianne’s has graced numerous stages both locally and regionally as a tour-de-force since the late 80’s. Her starring roles include Effie in Dreamgirls, Charmaine in Ain’t Misbehavin.? In the Dolores Winningstad Performing Arts Center, Julianne played the role of Ella Fitzgerald in the original play “Soul Harmony.” She also played Justice in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. Other star turns with Julianne playing the leading/title roles include?Hello Dolly, Gypsy, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Black and Blue, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and an acclaimed regional tour of “Once on this Island.“
Julianne is a PAMTA award winner. The PAMTA Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the performance of musical theatre in Portland and the surrounding area.?She is a Drammy awarded Actress which is a much-coveted award that recognizes live theatre produced in Portland by recognizing, rewarding, and celebrating outstanding work at public events. Julianne Johnson is also an Irene Ryan Regional Award winner.
She has spent over 30 years working with Charities and philanthropic organizations to bring awareness through music to the needs of those under-served.?Her most recent experience landed her an invitation to perform with the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Art of Living??International Peace Gathering. As a soloist on the National Mall in Washington DC. She performed for over 1 million people from around the World.
