Regulations by the state of Oregon and the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board require that individuals who operate x-ray equipment in a veterinary facility must have adequate training in Radiation Safety. PCC’s Veterinary Technology Department offers an online, self-paced Radiation Safety Course which has been approved by the State of Oregon, Radiation Protection Services, and the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board to fulfill the requirements for certification in this state. This course is specifically for veterinary technology students or veterinary staff in the state of Oregon.
The course introduces basic concepts in x-radiation and covers safety principles and techniques involved in using x-ray machines. There is no specific text required for the course – all educational materials are provided in the online format.
After completion of all course objectives, the course instructor will grant the student a certificate proving completion. This certificate will be mailed to the address provided in the student’s PCC account within 1 week after completion of the course objectives.
Prerequisite
Current employment in a veterinary facility that performs diagnostic radiographs, or admission to the Veterinary Technology Program is required.
Cost
PCC’s cost per credit is $133. There are a few other fees associated with the registration process making the overall cost for this course to be approximately $310.
Steps to register
- Apply now – complete steps 1 and 2. Be sure to apply as a “Credit seeking” student.
- Register for VT 109 Radiation Safety using your MyPCC account. When you attempt to register, you may be prompted to complete the Online Learning Orientation. Please complete this, if prompted, in order to continue registering for the course.
