Why choose Women’s and Gender Studies at PCC?

Our faculty focus on connecting the concepts we study to your everyday experiences. You’ll get a chance to analyze the problems that our society faces, as well as inspiration for how to participate in creating change. Our class sizes are small, and students are at the center of the experience. Classes are interactive and collaborative, focused on conversation and problem-solving rather than memorization and exams.

Race, Indigenous Nations and Gender studies

PCC’s Race Indigenous Nations and Gender (RING) faculty are devoted to you learning about injustice and how to address the inequities in our society. Consider taking classes in a range of RING subjects that address these concerns.

What will you learn?

The Women’s and Gender Studies program helps you understand some of the ways that power and oppression shape our world and experiences. Our intersectional feminist approach means that you’ll consider the ways that different systems connect, such as sexism, transphobia, racism, ableism, and economic oppression, among others. You’ll get to analyze your own role in sustaining and transforming the systems of injustice, and be inspired about ways to create social change. Women’s and Gender Studies courses satisfy general education and diversity requirements.

What will you do?

Thinking about intersectional feminism will give you a much better understanding of the ways people interact. The ideas you learn in Women’s and Gender Studies courses will be useful as you collaborate with future colleagues in your field, as well as clients and stakeholders. A better understanding of systemic injustice will give you a richer perspective for you to bring equity into your work.

Transfer options

Women’s and Gender Studies courses at PCC are designed to align with many of the courses required for Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies at schools like PSU, OSU, and the University of Oregon.
