Mathematical Art Projects

Campus contacts

Working in an atmosphere that encourages collaboration and discussion, we use common materials such as paper, wire and wood sticks to create mathematical art objects and examine the math behind them. Explore symmetry, geometry, knot theory.

We start by introducing the concept of symmetry, in both 2D and 3D. We use geometric construction toys to learn about polyhedra and their properties and then build our own 3D structures based on polyhedra. We also learn a few facts about knot theory, introduce some families of knots and then create some decorative objects by tying knots.
