Irish Set Dances & Kitchen Dances
So glad you’ve decided to join me in learning Irish Set Dances & Kitchen Dances! For ease and at a quick glance, you’ll need to:
- A pair of non-marking shoes with a slick sole. Try scuffing the ground with the sole while wearing the shoes. Do they mark? If so, find another pair. Leather-soled shoes are the best and can often be found for cheap at a charity shop or thrift store. I would recommend dedicating a pair specifically for dancing. If you wear them out on the street they’ll pick up bits of gravel, oils, and other debris that tend to mark up the floor on which we’ll be dancing.
- A water bottle and towel are helpful. Our classroom location may not be conveniently located near a water fountain so that you can pop out for a drink now and again. Towel and even an extra t-shirt will be helpful at keeping you dry during and after class.
- Your phone or some other device with which you can record the dances. I will be sharing videos of the dances with you but this will only give you a general idea of what the dances look like when danced with a full set to live music. If you’d like to capture step by step instructions, record it on your device.
- Join the private Groups.io listserv to connect everyone in class without concerns related to group emails (i.e. ends up in spam folder, personal information is accessible, etc.). Once subscribed you can augment your subscription to receive as many or as few emails as you’d like. You may also update your preferred email address is you’d rather make use of a different account. I send an initial invite at the beginning of the term to everyone enrolled in the course. If you did not receive this invite, send an email to PCCIrishCulturalCourses+subscribe@groups.io with the word JOIN in the subject line to join the listserv. This is how I will communicate and share materials (including class recordings) in the future.?
