Creative Framing Solutions supply list and info for students

Do you have artwork piling up at home — yours, or pieces you’ve purchased — because you’re avoiding the high cost of professional framing? Discover inventive ways to frame and display art using affordable materials and your ingenuity.

I want to emphasize the word inventive, because we will NOT be learning traditional framing skills like mat-cutting or wood frame joining in this class.

What we WILL do is:
* look at examples of artwork that is framed, displayed, or hung in non-traditional ways
* talk about where to find second-hand or inexpensive framing-related supplies
* brainstorm ideas for displaying your particular art pieces, as well as those of your classmates
* give ourselves permission to “think outside of the frame” ?
* get some of your pieces ready to display!

What you can bring to class:
?? 2 or 3 artworks you would like to frame or display
?? any picture frames, mat boards, hardware, etc. that you already have that might be usable
?? less standard but related items you already have, which could include colored paper, fabric, wood scraps, etc. that generally match the size/shape of your piece(s).

NOTE: It’s a bit tricky to define a materials list for this class, because each project will be different and we haven’t yet seen what you want to frame. After Day 1 you’ll have ideas of things to collect for Days 2 and 3. I will also provide some supplies.

Let’s get those meaningful items out of the drawer or box where they’ve been hiding!
