Strategic Course Scheduling

Strategic Course SchedulingThis project will create a strategic course scheduling model that is responsive to the needs of our students and community. Students will accelerate their progress toward goals in degrees because they will have options for the right class at the right time.

With Strategic Course Scheduling, the course catalog will take into account multiple modalities, time, location, and academic program maps. The model will promote cross-location collaboration and coordination, efficiency, space utilization, and resource savings.

New software is being developed to help implement an annual class schedule to improve student momentum, maximize enrollment and fill rates, and minimize class cancellations.? This project will also create a better model for event scheduling, campus rentals, and free speech needs.

These improvements will impact student success and completion. By improving fill rates, this project will also make resources available to reinvest in other needs, such as FT faculty, student support resources, and CTE equipment, among other needs.? This implementation will benefit all students, but especially marginalized, under-represented, and first-generation students.

Goals

  1. Transition to new scheduling software for events
  2. Implement heating and cooling efficiencies in conjunction with class and scheduling for energy savings
  3. Implement MAP for class schedule planning and refinement
  4. Build an annual schedule

An important element of this project is the implementation of the software ‘Ad Astra’ to develop an annual class schedule to improve student momentum, maximize enrollment and fill rates, and minimize class cancellations.? Ad Astra is a suite of products that help improve the stewardship of instructional resources, streamline student access to courses, and accelerate student completions.
