The PCC Project: “Inspiring Equity and Justice in Sustainability Education” –?A Faculty Training Workshop sponsored by the SPARC Council, Portland Community College: Cascade Campus, Room TBA, Friday, May 13, 2016, from 8:45am – 2:00pm.
The SPARC Council invites you to enhance your teaching and engagement with sustainability methods and practices by participating in our 4th annual faculty training workshop on Friday, May 13, 2016. This workshop is based on AASHE’s (The Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) Ponderosa/Piedmont Projects, a model that draws from a cross-disciplinary approach in curricular change. We invite faculty from all disciplines and perspectives to attend.
Are you thinking about adding new content to an existing course, or developing a new course that incorporates sustainability?
The workshop will explore how faculty can meaningfully integrate issues of equity and justice (social, environmental) within a sustainability context into our classrooms. Guest speakers will engage participants in facilitated small group discussions following a panel presentation. Also, learn how PCC’s Climate Action Plan drives SPARC’s initiatives to support sustainability curriculum development at PCC.
Participants will receive morning refreshments, lunch, and workshop materials; a stipend is also available for part-time faculty. SPARC will also provide follow up curriculum development support to any participant.
TO REGISTER: If you’d like to attend, please submit your name, department, and a one paragraph description of how you’d like to incorporate sustainability in a current or new course (with course title) to: Heidi Sickert, SPARC Chair (Sustainability Practices for Academics and Resources Council), heidi.sickert@pcc.edu.
Please email Heidi with any questions and thank you for your interest!
