Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner at PCC!
Posted by raquel.salazar
Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner is a climate activist, poet, and NCORE 2019 Keynote Speaker. Last Wednesday, PCC had the opportunity to host Kathy at Sylvania Campus and Cascade Campus. Kathy shared her passions of art, poetry and climate justice while describing her work. She performed heart-wrenching poems about her homes in the Marshall Islands and Hawai’i describing racial inequality and environmental issues threatening the islands. Kathy’s work primarily focuses on climate change and the history of nuclear testing at the Marshall Islands and how it has tremendously affected her community. She has also created a non-profit Jo-Jikum, dedicated to Marshallese youth and environmentalism.
It was an honor to have Kathy at PCC and we are so grateful she was able to share so much with us!
