The PCC Project: “Inspiring Equity and Place-based Sustainability Education”
A Faculty Training Workshop sponsored by the SPARC Council
Portland Community College: Cascade, Cascade Hall 310
Friday, May 29th from 8:45 am – 12:00 pm
The SPARC Council invites you to enhance your teaching and engagement with sustainability methods and practices by participating in our 3 faculty training workshop on Friday, May 29, 2015. This workshop is based on AASHE’s (The Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) Ponderosa/Piedmont Projects, a model that draws from a cross-disciplinary approach in curricular change. We invite faculty from all disciplines and perspectives to attend.
The workshop will explore how we can meaningfully integrate issues of equity and place-based sustainability into our classrooms. Guest speakers, including Greg Smith from Lewis & Clark College and Nichole Martin from Sustainability for All, will engage participants in facilitated small group discussions following a panel presentation. Also, learn how PCC’s Climate Action Plan drives SPARC’s initiatives to support sustainability curriculum development at PCC.
Participants will receive a full breakfast and workshop materials and a stipend is available for part-time faculty. SPARC will also provide follow up curriculum development support to any participant.
Application: If you are interested in attending, please submit your name, department, and a one paragraph description of how you’d like to incorporate sustainability in a current or new course (with course title) to:
Heidi Sickert, SPARC Chair (Sustainable Practices for Academics and Resources Council), heidi.sickert@pcc.edu
Application Deadline: Tuesday, May 19th, 2015
