WRC Mission, Goals, and Values
The PCC Sylvania Women’s Resource Center (WRC), the first location, was founded in 1995 by Deborah Evind to provide a central location for services that support the academic achievement of women, while working to increase access to education for women, improve the retention of women students at the college, and encourage women’s leadership development.
Mission
The Portland Community College’s campus based Women’s Resource Centers (WRC) apply the principles of intersectional, multicultural feminism to resist and dismantle sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression in order to support the success of all?women students at PCC.
Goals
- Enable women to make informed choices regarding academic, career, lifestyle, and health issues by providing accurate information, support, and education.
- Acknowledge the myriad ways that trans and non-binary people, people of color, and especially transgender women of color have been left out of our movements. We are open to students of all gender identities and are enthusiastically working to ensure we are centering the experiences of all women in our services.

- Encourage exploration of gender issues; to enhance personal development by integrating theory and learning into their daily lives; to provide a programmatic context for informed action and practical experience of issues critical to women and society.
- Actively seek the end of oppression based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, age, and ability through all our programs and services.
- Form alliances and foster collaboration between students, college resources, staff, faculty, and members of the wider PCC community.
