About Me
Hi! I’m Alyson. I’m a digital learning facilitator with a focus in instructional design for the IDEAS team in Online Learning. I have a BS from Western Washington University in pure Mathematics and a MS from WSU in Geophysics. I started my career in higher education as an instructor and director of the drop in tutoring center for STEM at WSU Vancouver in 2013. I taught Precalculus, Linear Algebra (my favorite), Algebra, Calculus for Life Sciences, and Calculus I, II for STEM majors.
My passion for coding and writing OER quickly led me to a full time role with Lumen Learning. From 2015 to 2018 I trained faculty in the use of their tools for writing OER math content, copyright, and helped several math departments across the country adopt and create OER for entire sections of entry level courses.
In 2018, I began to miss the classroom so I made the switch to teaching math and science courses at Clark College, both in person and online. I taught ABE math, Precalculus, Math for Liberal Arts, and ABE Science. I also began doing project management and instructional design with a company called Freedom learning Group. There, I had the pleasure of managing the development? of the Calculus sequence for Knewton’s Alta platform, and Google’s IT Automation with Python Professional Certificate delivered by Coursera.
My passion for instructional design led me to PCC in spring of 2021 when I began as an ITS. I am so grateful for my time with the amazing ITS group. It gave me the opportunity to really see what instructors need from technology and how they use it. In my current role, I serve as an Instructional Designer for online courses.
When I’m not at work, I love to be on my bicycle and I volunteer as a board member of Bike Clark County.
