Dr. Andrew Garland-Forshee (“Dr. Andrew” or “Dr. G-F” to his students) holds over 25 years of experience in the fields of education, family services, social and human services. These experiences range from at-risk youth programs, early education environments, parenting education and early childhood laboratory settings, to college teaching, human services settings, intervention programs, research, and program regulation. He currently serves as Department Chair of the Family and Human Services program.

Dr. Garland-Forshee is a first generation college graduate and an active scholar-practitioner-educator.? His current teaching and research interests include mental health stigma reduction among LGBTQI+ populations, salutogenic interventions to trauma response, and the application of mindfulness and contemplative practices in undergraduate human service education.? Dr. Garland-Forshee has published professional articles and reviews in scholarly journals including the Journal of Human Services, International Journal of Childbirth Education, and the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Social Services. He has served on the board of consulting editors for the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality and as a peer reviewer for other professional journals and publications. In 2006 his research was included among the special collections of the Kinsey Institute (Indiana University).

As a life-long learner, Dr. Garland-Forshee has completed training with LoveYourBrain to offer accessible yoga for individuals who have experienced Traumatic and Acquired Brain Injury (TBI/ABI). Recently, he completed his Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Practitioner certification under the guidance of Dr. David Treleaven.? Dr. Garland-Forshee uses his background and training in mindfulness, yoga, and contemplative based practices to enhance his teaching of human services, behavioral health, intervention strategies, and human development.? In addition to his appointment in the Family and Human Services program, Dr. Garland-Forshee is also a faculty member in PCC’s Institute for Health Professionals – Integrative Healthcare Ayurvedic Yoga Health Teacher Certification program.

Dr. Garland-Forshee was a recipient of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网ment (NISOD) 2018 Faculty Excellence Award. In 2024, under Dr. Garland-Forshee’s leadership, PCC’s Family and Human Services program was the first community college program west of the Rockies, and the first higher education program in Oregon, to achieve national accreditation (without conditions) through the Council for Standards in Human Services Education (CSHSE).
