Linda Stewart, English Professor, PCC-Sylvania
I’ve taught technical writing, composition, and literature courses at PCC-Sylvania for 20+ years.
Education
M.A. English, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
B.A. English, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, WA
About Me: I grew up in SE Portland. I was always a pretty good kid, but I do remember getting in trouble at a young age for pressing too many typewriter keys at the same time and gumming up my Mom’s precious manual typewriter that way. ?I think I always knew that writing was my destiny! Now I have my happily ever after as an English Professor, and tapping away on a keyboard is an essential part of my job.
Join me In Copenhagen during Summer of 2025!?

WR 227 (Technical Writing) Winter 2025: 100% online OR online + in person Mondays!
NOTE: I am teaching two different sections of WR 227. Choose the one that fits your schedule and learning style best:
- Section 11211 is 100% online with no class attendance
- Section 12048 combines online course work with fun, informative REQUIRED Sylvania Campus class meetings Mondays 11-1:50 pm
We use a free, online textbook Technical Writing so the textbook cost is 0$
Writing 227 introduces technical and professional communications and differs from Writing 121 (a prerequisite for Writing 227) in the following ways:
Audience:? We will focus on professional audiences (including audiences of diverse educational, cultural backgrounds, and skill levels).
Purpose:? We will cover informational and explanatory writing with special emphasis on the following: memos, instructions, reports, and blog posts.
Format:? We will design print and online documents using effective formatting and graphics.? The final assignment requires MLA or APA style citations.
I enjoy the practical nature of technical writing and emphasize experiential learning. All of the writing assignments address local, real-life situations. I frequently hear from previous students who tell me that their WR 227 skills helped them get scholarships, jobs, or promotions.? As a teacher, that is very rewarding!
