My name is Michele Maxwell and I provide academic advising for the Computing Department?on the Sylvania Campus.

I primarily advise for for the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Program

Computer Information Systems (CIS) is Portland Community College’s Information Technology program. This department offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in

  • Computer Information Systems (CIS)
  • Cybersecurity (CYB)
  • Network Administration (CISN)
  • Web 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网ment and Design (WBD)

Please note:

Computer Information Systems is NOT Computer Science!

None of the CIS classes transfers to a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Computer Science is a transfer major only. Computer Science transfer students take classes in calculus, physics, and computer science (among others) and then transfer to an Oregon University to complete their bachelor’s degree in computer science. Again, NONE of the CIS classes transfer to a computer science degree.

The degrees in the CIS program prepare students for entry-level work in the IT industry, such as:

  • IT Tech Support or Computer Support Specialist
  • Junior Programmer or Software Tester
  • Database 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网er or? Junior Data Analyst
  • Network Security, Junior Risk Analyst or Network Technician
  • Junior web developer

Our one-year Certificate in Computer Information Systems is equal to the first year of the AAS degree in CIS and prepares students for entry-level jobs in IT Tech Support.

Our Advanced Certificates are designed for IT professionals, who already work in the industry. Some of them can also be completed along with one’s AAS Degree.

Our CIS classes are offered mostly online and remote.

International Students on the F-1 Visa, will not be able to fulfill their 9 credits in person federal government requirement for these degrees. If you are studying at PCC on an F-1 visa, you will need to choose a different major.
